A linear algebra proof of the fundamental theorem of algebra

چکیده
We present a recent proof due to Harm Derksen, that any linear operator in a complex finite dimensional vector space admits eigenvectors. The argument avoids the use of the fundamental theorem of algebra, which can then be deduced from it. Our presentation avoids any appeal to the theory of determinants. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classification. 15-01, 15A18.

A brief introduction to quaternion matrices and linear algebra and on bounded groups of quaternion matrices
The division algebra of real quaternions, as the only noncommutative normed division real algebra up to isomorphism of normed algebras, is of great importance. In this note, first we present a brief introduction to quaternion matrices and quaternion linear algebra. This, among other things, will help us present the counterpart of a theorem of Herman Auerbach in the setting of quaternions. More ...
متن کاملThe Fundamental Theorem of Algebra and Linear Algebra
The first widely accepted proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra was published by Gauß in 1799 in his Ph.D. thesis, although to current standards this proof has gaps. Argand gave a proof (with only small gaps) in 1814 which was based on a flawed proof of d’Alembert of 1746. Many more proofs followed, including three more proofs by Gauß. For a more about the history of the Fundamental Theor...
متن کاملSome results on the block numerical range
The main results of this paper are generalizations of classical results from the numerical range to the block numerical range. A different and simpler proof for the Perron-Frobenius theory on the block numerical range of an irreducible nonnegative matrix is given. In addition, the Wielandt's lemma and the Ky Fan's theorem on the block numerical range are extended.

This paper aims to present the well-known spectral mapping theorem for multi-variable functions.
متن کاملMath REU Apprentice Program Alternate Proof of the Spectral Theorem
This paper is a proof of the Spectral Theorem; a theorem that was proven in the apprentice class but not in this manner. Because the Spectral Theorem is such a fundamental theorem in linear algebra, it is important to explore it further through an alternate proof.
